Residential Drywall Repair in Vancouver
Paint makes wall defects more visible, not less. Cracks, old patches, and uneven surfaces become more obvious under fresh paint — especially in rooms with raking natural light. We include drywall repair as part of every interior painting job, and we also do standalone drywall patching for homeowners who need repairs done before repainting themselves or before listing their home.
Common Types of Drywall Repair We Handle
Most homes in Vancouver have at least some drywall issues by the time they're repainted. Settlement is natural in BC's soil conditions, and it shows up as cracks at corners, along seams, and where walls meet ceilings. We see this constantly in Shaughnessy, Arbutus Ridge, Kerrisdale, and other older neighbourhoods where homes have been standing for decades.
Taping, Mudding, and Feathering
For crack repairs and seam failures, we cut out the damaged area, apply fiberglass mesh tape, and float multiple coats of joint compound over the repair. We use wide trowels — 12 to 14 inches — to feather the compound well beyond the repair zone so the transition between the patch and the surrounding wall is completely invisible. Each coat gets sanded before the next one goes on. When we're done, you shouldn't be able to find the patch.
Water Damage Repairs
Water-damaged drywall can't just be painted over. If the panel has expanded, delaminated, or developed mould, it needs to come out. We remove the damaged section back to the nearest stud, treat the framing cavity for mould if needed, and install a new panel cut to fit. We tape, mud, and prime the repair before colour goes on. Painting over water damage without replacing the board is a short-term fix that causes bigger problems later.
Vacuum Sanding & Texture Matching
We sand repaired areas using vacuum-assisted equipment to keep gypsum dust out of the air and off your furniture. Once the patch is flat, we match the surrounding texture before priming. Most Vancouver homes have either an orange-peel or light knockdown texture on their walls and ceilings. We replicate these textures using hopper sprayers and knockdown knives so the patched area blends seamlessly with the rest of the surface.
